Peel Airports is investing £6 million to resurface and strengthen the runway at Doncaster Sheffield Airport. Chris Harcombe, Head of Aviation Development, Doncaster Sheffield Airport, articulates the ambitions the airport has for the future.

Chris Harcombe, Head of Aviation Development, Doncaster Sheffield Airport: “We are extremely proud to have one of the longest runways in the North of England and we are working to remove 25mm of surface and replace this with 50mm, increasing the strength and overall lifespan of the runway surface for present and future operations.”

Peel Airports is investing £6 million in strengthening and resurfacing the runway at Doncaster Sheffield Airport. Work on the 2,891m long runway is taking place in the evening to minimise disruption to normal airport operations.

“Work is now underway on this project to strengthen and resurface our runaway,” says Chris Harcombe, Head of Aviation Development, Doncaster Sheffield Airport. “We are extremely proud to have one of the longest runways in the North of England and we are working to remove 25mm of surface and replace this with 50mm, increasing the strength and overall lifespan of the runway surface for present and future operations. We have worked closely with all of our airline partners and the council to ensure that the works can take place with minimal impact on passenger flights and local traffic. This investment from Peel Airports further demonstrates our continued commitment to the Sheffield City Region and the ambition the airport has for the future. Last year was our busiest-ever with 1.2m passengers flying from DSA. The runway is our key asset and this significant investment will set us well for future growth.”
